Singapore Youth Festival/Compeition

Firstly, SYF'S over. Never did it occur to me the time on stage would pass that fast. When we left the stage walking down the stairs, chatting intermittenly about our playing, i felt i was still left hanging in the atmosphere of Overture 2 and Pictures. omg everything's over. But not really on a very satisfactory note. Before i launch into details, i seriously truly strongly agree that Vjcsb put up an incerdible performance, transcendental one. We have left a legacy for attempting such an avante garde piece of band music that no singapore school bands have ever tried. And it was an amazing feat that we played it so well on stage today, when we once thought it was totally impossible when we first got hold of our music score. Our hard work we put in the past 4 months have no gone to waste despite the unsatisfactory result. (can you believe it? we only started practising it in end of january). I think the audience are swept off their feet by our cool (weird, unique) music :D Its pretty fun. Hmm although i think we've played better on some rehearsals, but nevertheless i think we still did very well. Those rehearsals were 120% and today was 110% (: Anyway, if there is any one out there who thinks that we lost our GWH due to change of conductor, i must say YOU ARE TERRIBLY HORRIBLY VEGETABLY WRONG. Cause Dr Goh is a fantastic conductor (although he's different from mr tan) with ultimate great taste in music . He is daring and adventurous, attempting songs that seldom or never appear in Singapore's band history. I think our band have grown and matured in our sense of musicality and appreciation of band music, not just the normal lyrical and rhythmic bandmusic. And this, i guess, is truly what being a musician is all about (: Well, thats my take on today's performance.

When i came home, i immediately went to sg band fusion forum to check for any band gossips on today's results.. but sadly, not much excitng things going on.. sad. BUT i saw this comment by some guy named tarouy28 and im really appreciative and grateful for accepting our avante garde music.

"MY choice was VJC and only one band.
Overture was well controlled with natural and reasonable interpretation.
choice piece was most avangard music of the whole SYF i guess and they managed to play really well.

and rest are not really MY favour..........

band standard in Singapore has been improved very much compared to our time.
but sadly to say, more bands are just concern of the tone, and intonation for the sake of competition,
and it was true that such bands awarded better, especialy in secondary schools' SYF.
I hope to see more daring conductor for next SYF."

(: (: (: Happy to hear the compliments for our playing.

As many should know, the top 3 GWH bands of 2007 have all dropped to gold. Those 3 bands include us, Vjcsb. But im assured that this year's judging is simply wayward. And i believe a few bands deserved more than what they are being awarded. And perhaps some didnt deserve that much. While standing at the back stage in our 4 lines, i was listening and totally immersed into Saint Andrew's El camino Real. Partly because it brought back fond memories of my first SYF in 2005 which stnicks clinched their first gold after 13 years of silver. And majorly, the band really played professionally. Started hearing from the slow part of oboe solo. I must say they played every note with care and grace. And every entrance of instruments was clear and crisp with no inbetween sounds/notes. It was gentle and soothing and played with much emotions (thats what i felt standing in back stage hearing them, can hear very clearly okay!) The horns played the few horn parts really nicely. From where i stood, they sounded really really good. I was actually fingering the notes with elton and singing different parts along with the band (: Kinda help soothe the tense feeling gushing down my body.

When it was our turn to get up, i think we really played and sounded like one band, one entity. IT's a great feeling knowing and feeling everyone's determination to put up a good performance that would wow the audience( yes i think we did) and judges( i think they suck) =P. And i think we did REALLY REALLY WELL (: i enjoyed windscapes the most most most. :D love it. And the song has totally grown on me.

Results were really shocking. When they announced Saint Andrew's results, everyone was practically stunned. There was a pause of 2 -3 seconds. And i think sa band didnt clap. When it was our results, we were stunned too.
Totally flabbergasted. What was much more unpredictable was "Band no.16 Anderson Symphonice Band, GolD with honours". Seriously, most of the students from other schools just stood rooted and stared at them.We were badly shcoked. well, some of us cried upon hearing the results (im one of them =X). I think Sajc felt worse than us cause they were kinda inofficially known as the top band in Singapore. And they have gotten GWH since it was ever established. Im not saying that just becauuse of their past records, they should got GWH, but they really do derserve it. I believe many of the audience would agree much with me too. And i believe very very strongly that vjcsb and sajc did a very fantastic job today. OH and this year, there are only 2 Gwh bands who are both under the same conductor, Elvin.

Well, i was pretty much agitated and indignant over the results, not over the gold, but over the results. In any case, Vjcsb and Sajc are still the best bands in singapore in my opinion and that Vjcsb has always been a gold with honours band like what Dr Goh and Gabriel told us. Then again, this Festival/competition is not accurate in determining our musical ability as it is ever so subjective and dependent on judges weird criteria and the oh-so-yucky acoustics of the venue. Lets re-judge again on presentation night. On a lighter note, im wondering who will be the 3 bands to perform at presentation night.

Aside from all the music aspects, Today's gathering was enjoyable (: Met many Stnicks band people from my batch! Uly, Jiaying, Peiting, Andrea, Cheryl, Sarah plus the old time seniors >< like GLORIA! phy xiaojia :D It was really heartwarming to see your seniors back again. And nice to talk to gloria once again! She's still so small and mama-ish. Great having her around to calm my nerves and chat and her wonderful advices! Esp her hugs (: Love phy too! oh and my cousin kokie was with sa Band. much thanks to his well wishes and consoles and compliments.

oh my before i end, guess what? I thought our skirts were short enough for a formal competition, but i saw a flautist from aj whose skirt was practically hidden under her blazer =O! and sgband fusion has a funny topic about girls wearing skirts or shorts? AHAH

DANG. I realised i havent updated my blog for EONS OF YEARS! Many interesting things have happened and past in my life and most importantly, SNSB GOT GOLD WITH HONOURS. I dont freaking wanna care about those freaking insensitive band critics on sgbandfusion blog although i was really agitated and upset about those comments about my band. But then again, i think i shouldnt stoop to their level and waste my breathe on them. GO SNSB! I LOVE YOU FOREVERRRRRRRRRRRRRR! continue making impressive music with miss sia. We'll sore high and glorious (:

OH OH sorry iggy ahah havent been updating.. (: Here's one update for you then!

Got this really beautiful song from a sylvester who has been helping me to increase my song library. Looked through the lyrics and it kinda touched my heart. This song is 'Love story' by Taylor Swift.

We were both young when I first saw you.
I close my eyes and the flashback starts:
I'm standing there on a balcony in summer air.

See the lights, see the party, the ball gowns.
See you make your way through the crowd
and say hello;

Little did I know
That you were Romeo; you were throwing pebbles,
And my daddy said, "Stay away from Juliet."
And I was crying on the staircase,
begging you, 'Please, don't go.'"

And I said,
"Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone.
I'll be waiting; all there's left to do is run.
You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess
It's a love story - baby just say 'Yes.'"

So I sneak out to the garden to see you.
We keep quiet 'cause we're dead if they knew.
So close your eyes; escape this town for a little while.
'Cause you were Romeo, I was a scarlet letter,
And my daddy said "Stay away from Juliet,"
But you were everything to me; I was begging you, 'Please, don't go,'"

And I said,
"Romeo, take me somewhere we can be alone.
I'll be waiting; all there's left to do is run.
You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess
It's a love story - baby just say 'Yes.'

Romeo save me - they're tryin' to tell me how to feel;
This love is difficult, but it's real.
Don't be afraid; we'll make it out of this mess.
It's a love story - baby just say "Yes.'"

Oh.

I got tired of waiting,
Wondering if you were ever comin' around.
My faith in you was fading
When I met you on the outskirts of town,

And I said,
"Romeo save me - I've been feeling so alone.
I keep waiting for you but you never come.
Is this in thy head? I don't know what to think-"

He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring and said,
"Marry me, Juliet - you'll never have to be alone.
I love you and that's all I really know.
I talked to your dad - go pick out a white dress;
It's a love story - baby just say 'Yes.'"

Oh, oh.

We were both young when I first saw you...

I've been like kinda troubled by one particular incident which it very very complicated and annoying. Feeling really helpless about it although i really wish to do something. But i've come to a conclusion that by doing something, i reckon more problems will surface. There are enough issues right now. URGHHHHH i hate this feeeling.. I just wanna bury my head under the soil. I really hope things will turn for the better for everyone (and that i get out of it safely). I dont know if i have the right to feel pissed about it.. or im at fault?

Right.. enough emo-ing. There's no point. Tomorrow is band day ( from 9 - 5) TIRED! I havent been able to concentrate on my studies like how i did last term. I should pace myself and gain back my momentum. A levels are nearing like mad! T3A! -dang! plsu plus i really need to go check out on university courses and my future jobs. I dont wanna end up hating my job in my years to come!

Another point of reflection.. On the bus today, me chia suzie and bird were happily chatting. Chia told us what suzie wrote on her career exploration questionaire. The question was basically asking "What do you want to achieve in your future?" or something but i know there was an element of time span like maybe 10 years to come? So suzie wrote " be in a steady relationship .." haha i thought it was pretty cute. (: I mean i would wish for that too! =P! And seriously, its every girl's dream to find a guy that she can really rely on and live with happily! Alright i sound so fairytale like! I SHOULDNT(am not!) BE LIKE CHIA AND SUZIE WHO ARE MAN CRAZY! hahaha

the only thing that keeps me wishing on a wishing star

cny + orientation = OMG-LY BUSY!

WHEEEEEEEEEEE! All the mega big events are finally over.. Chinese new year wasnt as fantastic as previous years.. But hehe! the clothes i bought were <333!bleah! Im kinda lazy to blog about cny. So...As i always believe, pictures speak a thousand words :D

OH OH! omg! on the 7th day of cny, i went to my grand uncle's house which is oh-so-freaking humongous! His garden can actually hold a swimming pool (if he ever converts it to one) and he has another piece of land behind where he plants lots of different vegetables! BUT, i still wouldnt mind my puny little HDB flat(my room is purplish pink! so lovely!) Anyway, he invited our family clan association lion dance troupe over and what a surprise! I was pretty much astounded to know that the lion dancers and members involved were youngsters like me! Truthfully speaking, i was expecting some bunch of old boney old men with pot bellies dancing under the lions. BUT WHOOO! saw a really cute guy doing the lion dance >.
ok back to peeeekchures!

NOW FOR ORIENTATION 2009!Lovely experience, crazy, estatic, mind-blowing, funny, WILD! Lots of beautiful memories and friendship forged.. Especially between my sub OGLs. (: Really love them alot. Without them i WOULD surely regret my choice signing up as OGL and crap! if i ever regret, those freshmen spending days with me are gonna suffer. HA fortunuate vierra freshmen!

Getting started off with new people is never an easy job for me.First day was of course, weird! But enjoyable, with Ogls constantly screaming and spamming cheers. IM so glad having Syikin Sylvester and Shihang around! CAUSE THEY ARE THE BEST OGLs I CAN EVER EXPECT! Despite Sly for being such a meanie (keeps poking me!) and insane person (OH I MEAN CAT) at times, despite shihang (gayboy!) for being bitchy and gay, despite syikin's(CHICKEN!) really funny voice when she's mute, i love them so so so much! Not forgetting my little vierra kiddos! (: Yiying(stnicks!), Jamien, Amanda, Ruby, Samantha, Clara, Yuemeng, Anqi, xuya, moses, Oswin, Xindi and Gongbo. WE ARE THE BEST SUB OG IN VJ! I DONT CARE! <3333 I can proudly declare that v4 Ogls are da closest and V4 people all together are the best in volux.. :D

Sea sports carnival and mass dance was exceptionally crazy and wacky (: After sea sports carnival, V4 went mandarin gardens to bathe and talked crap. OF course, not forgetting to cam whore. Went to Marina square and ate lunch/dinner! And omg that was the MADDEST and CRAPPIEST lunch/dinner in orientation. Sly's temporary insanity (according to Syikin) was da ultimateZxZXZ! Kept all of us roaring in laughters. He did the ILLUMUS OOOSE OOOOSE THING to a random stranger and the stranger had a really sheepish smile on his face, he did YO VJ cheer sign to every vj student he saw!, he danced weirdly out of the blue and these pair of couple stared at us real hard! He went to a female cat picture outside a shop and started touching it (the female cat was supposed to be his girlfriend). Oh and shihang opens his mouth really widely when he burst out laughing.. Super hilarious! After lunch/dinner, we went to bowl and guess what. I did the most embarrassing and nooobest mistake of my life. -faints. I actually dropped the ball behind me when i was preparing to get into my position to bowl. ): How malu-ed can that be. oh but then again, my fellow OGLs had more funny facts when they bowl. Shihang fell to his knees after letting off the ball. Syikin's ball went to the long kang after barely passing 1.5 metres. HAHAHAHA omg how i love my og! Even lemuel keeps crashing my sub og gatherings. And w're cool man! We didnt even sit with our big og during joustling at the beach =P!

Sighs.. orientation is over! means alot lesser time to see my freshmen and fellow sub OGLs! Im looking forward to friday's OG bbq and present making for our freshies with the other 3 OGLs.. lastly, much thanks for vierra OGLs and freshies for making this orientation so fun and happening. This was so much more memorable than orientation 2008.

School started with a adrenaline rush-ed monday morning where heart of mine was thumping like mad while anticipating my r papers and of course, the o level results in the afternoon.

I think i shant elaborate much on it. With just a general statement..for those who did well in their perspective, CONGRATS (: and those who didnt( in their perspective), dont worry or be disheartened and crestfallen over it. Its over and what we should be looking forward to is ways to achieve your ultimate goal in entering your desired JC. Vjc band will of course do her best to bring in an many nssn people as possible.

Anyway,my new year with new tutors. (: Till today, i find them really good. Esp my gp tutor..and i received our 16PF report. It was really quite an interesting exploration of your self, as wellas the unknown subconscious side of you that you have been experiencing but somehow, unable to find words and descriptions to dsecribe what you're undergoing. (: Miraculously, this report wasnt those vague and general kind that almost 50% of the people have the same kinda comments. These information really described me very accurately..

"...Ms see appears to be a person who is apt to be more intuitive than strictly rational in her approach to problems and situations. She is likely at times to focus more on the intangible feeling aspects of what she believes to be most important (yea i realised it myself..my feelings and intuition gets the better of me). Being open to rather senstive perceptions about things, she may also find it somewhat difficult to easily set them aside. She, therefore, may require more time to resolve things that people who are mostly action-oriented and concerned about practicalities may think is necessary. She gets too overly concerened about possible negative outcomes and results (LIKE TOTALLY! Which results in my worrisome nature and habit of always thinking about possible problems that may arise from a particular thing)..."

"Right now, Ms see seems to be experiencing more worry and tension that is usually normal. Perhaps this shows that she is having some trouble accomplishing what she expects of herself in her personal life and career (..sadly, thats the truth..). Ms See is prone to worry about things of importance to her and she sometimes feels less worthy and equal to others than she would like to be. As a results she may not accept herself enough to be fully herself with others. Ms See tends to be concerned when she is not accepted by others as she expects to be. She may sometimes doubt herself unnecessarily. As a results, she may not feel she can deal as effectively with some situations as she would like to do (..this paper knows me inside out).."

" On the whole, Ms see tends to give about equal amounts of time and attention to the relationship between herself and others, But she also tends to value quality time alone on occasion. Ms See usually strives to balance her desire to be somewhat dominant in relationships with a sensible display of humility and modesty when it is important to do so (OOOH.. i never knew). Even so, Ms see appears to want to be cheerful and active in her dealings with other people. She also usually tries to do her best to be as lively as possible in social situations (yes! but why does it sound like im trying damn hard?)"

" ... Ms see enjoys bringing creative self expression into art forms, literature or innovative productsand services - activity characteristics of persons who find satisfaction working in the artistic, literary, drama, musical, and performing arts field. They usually valule activities that enable them to express their abilities, idea, talents, esp those which bear the imprint of their efforts.." (thats my ideal jobscope that i've been trying so hard to decipher in words)

well, the rest shall be left for another post. There's school tomorrow!

like OHH MA GOD! our syf piece totally sends chills down my whole body...
so freaking and weird and abstract. it feels as though im caught in some unrealistic world of a devil with lots of menaces and dead traps.. ): Maybe we'll scare the hell out of the judges till they have to give us GWH! And gosh. we're the first Singapore band to play it. Zechariah goh is da bombZxzX! ><

Im so envious of the sec4s VS people. They seem to so freee and happy! Always having stayovers at friend's house and going out like just LIKE THAT! OMG I WANNA GO OUT TOO AND HAVE FUN 0: Crap the r papaer on monday. Im so gonna go shopping and east coast park and movie after my R papers to make up for my deprived soul.. Anyway, O level results will officially be announced on 12 jan monday 2 pm. I wanna go back to stnicks ): but apparently i cant.. Well, maybe i'll pop over on CCA fair =P or maybe later..I'll have to enjoy the last year of stnicks architectures and the memories we left there. I HOPE STNICKS DOES EXCEPTIONALY WELL!:D i wont mind more stnicks gals coming to vj hehehehe.. can try to exceed the cedar girls and tk girls count in veejay. NUAHAHA. just jk.

SO, i had studying session with Jazz yesterday in school! :D And she's like sitting for her bio paper now.. half an hour more. Hope she passes it! Aha and we came up with a funnaye conclusion => Vs boys are quite cute! Esp those in khaki pants.. But other than being cute, they're abit too short. haha but in any case, those vs boys we saw in vj yesterday seem better looking than our batch's vs guys! OMG.. JUST JOKING! hah okay we're quite weeetarded huh? WE WERE SUPPOSED TO BE STUDYING! hehehe
I LOVE YOU JAZZ and yea SHERYL! haha (:

LASTLY, all the best and good luck to all NSSN sec4s and stnicks sec 4s! I HOPE EVERYONE DOES WELL! esp those NSSN people! May god's spirits keep you strong. Vj will be waiting for your good results.. (:

"HOMO..YAY! WE WIN AGAIN!"
"Oh its like a few more minutes to 12 am! so fast"
"Okay the girls shall go out to the rooftop and wait then when the hosts starts countdowning, you guys run up ok?"
"...... 10!!! 9!!!! 8!!!!!!!.....3!!!!2!!! 1!!!!"
and there we were, standing on chairs on yongyi's rooftop area gazing out to the fireworks in the city not far from his place. Amazingly, it was quite a spectacular view as we were merely only 4 storeys above ground (: Could see quite a whole profile of the fireworks display, but the lower fireowrks cant really be seen.. That was how 2009 came knocking on my door. :D Enjoyable, i must say, spending it with my S31 classmates. It was really nice meeting them again, esp sheryl jazz simin! :D well although i received a really awkward situation in yongyi's room when i walked in (CAUSE EVERYONE WAS GLUED ON THE TV WATCHING LITTLE NYONYA!!!! >:( ), other than that, everything was :D Went to the rooftop to meet jazz whom i havent seen in ages! Tried some red wine (13.5% and 30.0% alcohol) I TRIED IT!!! :D 2 sips each =P not bad for a starter. At least i could tolerate the funny pang in my mouth. played twister and taught them to play homo :D but somehow, they are not as hyper and crazy and mad as band ppl. Band's homo IS OUTRAGEOUSLY SCARY! ;O! haha

A new year with a new beginning. im not exactly beginning this new 2009 year with a new beginning.. still the same old routine..tv, maths, msn, more maths, tv, msn more maths.. sheeshh.. i wish i had just go find a stupid mark from my promo paper and pass my overall maths with another 0.7% THEN I WILL BE R PAPER -LESS ): but again, it may be a blessing in disguise. At least im doing some maths.. hopefully by CTs, i wont be flustering that much. Well, im looking forward to school! which will then mean NO MORE R PAPER :D and more time with my girlfriends (MORE BITCHING AND MORE CRAZY LAUGHING AND OF COURSE, SNACKING >.
Im supposed to be studying but im BLOGGING HERE? and i went to cheryl's photo web and saw alot of old pictures together in stnicks with our classmates. Memories can be so sweet.(:
